History of Key Club International

The first Key Club was sponsored in May 1925 at Sacramento High School in California by Sacramento Kiwanis Club. It was first established as a vocational guidance program for males. The service aspect eventually became the main focus of the Key Club. The idea of Key Club spread, and, in 1939, Florida had enough clubs to hold a convention. Soon after, Florida became the first district. Other areas followed in establishing districts, and in 1943 a national organization was formed. Key Club became international with the establishment of a club in Canada in 1946. Also in 1946, Key Club adopted the International Constitution and By-Laws.

Key Club International adopted its first international theme in 1956: "Prove Brotherhood." Women were allowed to participate in Key Club in 1977.

History of the Ohio District

Ohio became a district of Key Club International in 1949. Next to California-Nevada-Hawaii and Texas-Oklahoma, the Ohio District is the third largest district and the largest single state district.

Ohio is led by a Governor, a Secretary-Treasurer, a Historian, a Bulletin Editor, a Webmaster, and 29 Lt. Governors. These officers are elected each year at District Convention. Terms for these officers officially start April 1. To learn more about the offices of the Ohio District Board, contact your Lt. Governor or the District Office.
